I remember always hearing you say you’re out for blood,
But for some reason or other, now you’re sticking in the mud,
You wanted to make a difference, to break down all the walls,
But where there once was light behind those eyes, there’s nothing left at all…
Whatever happened to that anger, the refusal to compromise?
I can only guess that something sharp has cut you down to size,
Perhaps you just got old and weary, or something made you blink,
Is this really what you want or have you not had chance to think,
Now you're looking with a stutter and you’re talking with a squint…
I can’t blame, but it’s a crying shame,
You’ve got everything you want, but you’re still pissed-off with the world you live in…
You’ve started playing it safe, close to your chest; you keep it quiet now, just in case,
They turn around and they throw it back in your face,
You’re not burned-out yet; it’s just your mindset that’s keeping you in your place…
It seems you passed with flying colours, walked straight into the job;
You thought the hardest part was over, but things could not be further from the truth –
What you’d learned; what you know; it doesn’t matter if your face doesn’t fit, and your face never fit…
So someone else made the decisions, and it left you feeling sore,
You were either shouted-down, or were just pointedly ignored,
Every day became a challenge just to try to stay sane,
All the tired, disgruntled elders said “you need to play the game”,
You moved onto something “better”, and it’s just the fucking same!
I can’t blame, but it’s a crying shame,
You’ve got everything you want, but you’re still pissed-off with the world you live in…
So what are you gonna do, now you’ve been through the wringer and you’re black and blue,
Turn and walk away or try to see it through?
You’re not burned-out yet; it’s just your mindset that’s stopping you…
